Cogniq Labs works on a single question with a lot of surface area: what does it actually take to make machine intelligence reliable? Not impressive in a demonstration. Reliable, in the hands of someone who has to answer for the outcome.
Capability is no longer the constraint it was. Frontier models can do remarkable things on a good day. The engineering problem that remains is everything around the good day: retrieval that surfaces the right context, evaluation that catches regressions before users do, and architectures that fail in ways an operator can understand and correct.
How we work
We are deliberately small. Research happens in the open: we publish working notes rather than waiting for finished results, and we write up the approaches that failed alongside the ones that held. Negative results are cheaper to share than to rediscover.
Our research notes are the primary output. They are written to be useful to practitioners rather than to impress reviewers.
What we work on
Six parallel threads, chosen because each one sits where the gap between what a model can do and what it reliably does is widest: agent architectures, language models, agents in production, voice systems, AI-native organisational topology, and the physical externalities of inference.
They are threads rather than stages. None of them finishes, and progress in one regularly changes what the right question is in another. Work in evaluation, for instance, keeps turning out to be the constraint on everything else, because a claim you cannot measure is a claim you cannot build on.

Structure
Cogniq AI is the applied division of Cogniq Labs. It takes methods that hold up under scrutiny here and builds them into production systems for businesses. The separation is intentional: research that has to justify itself commercially every quarter stops being research.
In practice the traffic runs both ways. Deployed systems surface failure modes that no benchmark produces, and those failures set the agenda here more often than anything we plan in advance.
